So yeah

I only posted that link in particular to get a rise out of the two of you, not because I have particularly strong feelings about the subject either way at this point.

I'm not so sure about the aquarium at this point. My funds have become significanly more strained than I had anticipated due to several extenuating circumstances (medication for Abby, student loan payments that I was under the impression I didn't have to make, etc.), so since that's the most expensive, I think maybe we should cut that one out. I do want to see Science and Industry and the Planetarium. I'm hoping there is a plethora of things to see/do for free.

I never saw Garden State or The 40-year-old Virgin. I did see Red Eye, however, and would definitely recommend it. If for no other reason than to oggle at Cillian Murphy.

Seriously though, it was a pretty cool movie.

discombobulated thoughts

I'm not so sure that I liked Garden State... I thought it was odd, and once it was over, I kind of had one of those reactions where you really don't know what your reaction is - not necessarily good or bad, but just kind of there like... "huh... ok... so that was odd". I didn't really have any other sort of reaction to that movie. Maybe I need to see it a second time...

Since Jim hasn't actually contacted you about what he wants to do (like I've told him to several times) - he said that he definitely wanted to go to the aquarium. Then maybe the Museum of Science and Industry and the Planetarium. If you don't want to go to any of those, then I can just go with him. I really don't care where I go too much, so I'll do whatever.

Like I said earlier today, we'll be there Thursday. 9:50pm. Midway. You should have the flight info.

I'm not even going to touch the stem cell subject. Things might get ugly.

Anyways, time to spiffy up the apartment and start makin' dinner!

P.S. I like the word "discombobulate".

THINGIES

Firstly, when in the hell are you guys coming up here? I figured..um..soon. Remind me when you're flight comes in. And, um, remind me what you want to do.... (I'm looking at YOU Jim.)

Secondly, Jim, that stemcell thing is Dumb with a CAPITAL "D." The issue is so fraught with controversy that it's bound to continue being argued for years. Much like the abortion issue. (Don't EVEN start getting into this here.) The point is, there are watchdog groups "warning" politicians all the time. Hell, I'm pretty sure a watchdog group warned me about my complete disregard for recycling the other day. Whatever.

P.S.

Star Trek roxors your boxors!
(And Brent Spiner makes me feel all tingly on the inside.)

P.P.S.

I recently saw "Garden State" for the first time as well as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Both are highly recommended.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!

you're finally 22... like the rest of us... :-P

I have been touched by his noodly appendage. Ramen.

I think you'll be amused by this... anything that manages to combine noodly appendages and pirates is definitely entertaining...

A guy from work sent me a link about Flying Spaghetti Monsterism (aka Pastafarianism)
It even has its ownWikipedia entry.
Here's the original website.

I definitely had a good laugh...

"Global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct consequence in the decline in numbers of pirates since the 1800s."
~Bobby Henderson, the "prophet" of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism~

Ramen.

Ugh...

Just glancing at the page that you linked to made me want to vomit and rip all of my hair out simultaneously - seriously, it would have been more fun... If this turns into a political ranting blog, I'm out.

And why should you, personally, take offense at my comment about Star Trek being a rather bad television show? You weren't in any way affiliated with the people who came up with the idea for the show, nor were you associated with its directors, producers, or actors in any way, shape or form. It's not your fault it was a bad show - nor is it your fault that the public was so deluded as to actually watch it for 7 seasons. So there's no cause for you to take offense... except for possibly the implied suggestion that you have bad taste in television shows and movies...(and considering you liked Catwoman, I am inclined to agree with both my comment's literal and implied meanings).

:-P

the THEME

I must say that I'm not so happy with this bantering that's been happening. Let's all chill out a bit.

That being said, I take offense to the description of the theme as a "rather bad television show". If it was bad, it wouldn't have had a seven year run, and wouldn't have been followed by two great spin offs, and one acceptable spin off. Oh, I forgot about four movie spin offs too.

In any case, maybe it is time to reach some middle ground, and begin discussing things of that are more pertinent and timely. Maybe something like this.

THE THEME EXUDES SUCKINESS!!!!!

... what was that about not knocking the theme?

Considering I was not asked for input in the decision to go with this particular theme, I believe that I have every right to knock it as often as I feel like it.

My focus was not on the description of the theme's inspiration as a "bad television show" - but more on the fact that you had long, lingering, intricately detailed thoughts about the thoguht process of a character from said tv show... For example, if I went around posting blog entries about how I had a very compelling thought (compelling enough to center an entire blog post around this particular thought) about Paula Abdul's thought process... or Rory Gilmore's thought process for that matter (since Paula Abdul is actually a real person, whereas Data is not)... it'd be weird.

ZING!

First off, don't knock the theme.

Second off, "rather bad television show" is an interesting assessment from someone who watches Gilmore Girls and American Idol religiously.

8.24.2005

the theme sucks

Is it really necessary to keep with the "theme"? Seriously?

... not so much...

Either way, if out of the blue, you have random, intricately detailed thoughts about a television show character's thought process (not to mention one from a rather bad television show...), you need more help than I thought you did...

One more week and it's Chicago time!

In keeping with the theme.

I was thinking about Data today.

I was thinking about the fact that computers most likely have difficulty processing double entendres or problems that arise from equivocation. I thought fondly on a few episodes where Data would have to pause for a moment to understand a term used out of place. Or to understand a slang phrase. Or an obscure phrase in general.

And then I thought, "But he's a freakin' android." Think about it for a second. His positronic brain can process some ridiculous number of calculations in a millisecond. Obviously, far faster than modern computers can operate. So... What took him 2-3 seconds to look up a phrase in his internal dictionary/encyclopedia? I can do a "search" through the entire google database in less time than that.

Perhaps his internal database is far larger, but I would hope that it would be partitioned in such a way as to accomodate searches of that sort. In the end, it doesn't make much sense, but it's a television show.

Or IS it?

8.21.2005

Umm...

I'm not so sure how happy I am about this leaky roof thing.......

insanity

Please tell me that you weren't up until 6am playing Guild Wars... seriously... you are insane!!! (although I guess that's why I'm friends with you... well, not because you stayed up all night playing Guild Wars... more just because of the being insane in general...)

HA! Jim gets to sleep under the leaky roof! I feel special...

I don't wanna go to work tomorrow :(
Unfortunately, I don't really have much of a choice in the matter, so I'm gonna go to sleep now (at a much more reasonable time than 6am...)

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

Seriously, I think I might actually go to sleep now.

Seriously.

I'm f'real.

Weekend sleep is for pussies...

...and the elderly.

I declare my timestamp accurate and at a point where I'm not even close to being tired.

Listening to APC and playing Guild Wars. I can't beat the bonus mission on Frost Gate yet, but that will change soon. Oh yes, that will change.

It's the first time I've played this game in weeks. And, for some reason, winamp keeps wanting to be on shuffle.

So my roof leaks. Seriously. I'm getting that fixed. Don't worry about it. If it's not fixed by September...um.. Jim gets to sleep underneath it.

That's what you get for blaming me for things when I'm far away.

8.16.2005

I hate Pat

You weren't here for coffee tonight, and both of my backups failed me. You should die for this.

8.09.2005

Planes are bad

Not really, but I don't Pat's green, nor do I like whatever color this is.

you fly plane?

You think I want to go to the stars?

I don't even like to fly--I take trains.

8.08.2005

and the countdown begins....

24 more days until Chicago!

8.03.2005

Service you?

You'd better not be talking to me... because I have no intention of servicing either one of you.

I am Locutus of Blog.

Resistance is futile. Your life as it has been is over. From this time forward you will service us.

I am NOT the blog....

Yeah... so if we're going to continue with the Star Trek references, I might have to boycott the blog (which would be sad considering I'm one of its members...).

:-P

I am the Blog

I will continue, aboard this ship, to speak for the Borg. While they continue, without further divserion, to Sector 001, where they will force your unconditionial surrender.

We are the Blog

Lower your shields and power down your weapons. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
